Hanoi: the museems

We landed in Hanoi and reached our hotel around six in the morning (stupid overnight train) and set about exploring this beautiful city.
There is a lake there, near our hotel and there are giant tortoises in it, they have the body of one of these preserved, its over two meters in length. We went over the bridge and wandered about the wonderful pagoda on the Island. There were statues of Warriors in colourful dress, it was interesting because it seemed so different, so foreign to us.
We went on our history tour (when you are traveling with a historian you do that a lot) to see the Ho Chi Mi Mausaleem and the one leg pagoda. We wandered around the beautiful gardens and made our way to the gigantic Lenin(that's not John Lenin, BTW, but the political leader Lenin) memorial. Next, we went to the War Reminents Museum. Its very emotive, we both felt overwhelmed by the poignant stories of reporters who were killed, of husbands who never returned and disgusted by the brutal effects of chemical warfare and brutal American troops.
