Bendigo: the gold route

Been in Victoria for a while now (that's where Melbourne is) and traveled outside of the great city of Melbourne on a few occasions. Twice I've been to Bendigo, which is a small city (i.e. a town) about two hours from Melbourne by car. Its a mining town and forms part of the Gold Mining history route (along with Ballarat which I will come to in my next post). Its really quite an interesting place as it still looks like a mining town, its very dusty and there is a bar there that looks more like a wild-west style saloon. Inside it is smoky and full of pokie machines (one arm bandids and a range of other gambling machines)
Austalia is a place of pies, to say that they like pies is an understatement, they just love 'em, especially in the mining towns, so if you ever go to Bendigo you have to check out the pies!! Delicious!
