Hangovers.... aghhhh!!! the pain. For the record I have never felt so bad as I did that morning. WE woke up sick, in a piss-smelling hut surrounded by bugs and spiders and aching with sunburn. Quickly we packed our stuff and set out on the motor bike in search of five star bliss. Paddy said we could take anywhere! That was tested when we came to a hotel that charged 100 each per night. Instead we went to PJs, a lovely, luxurious place which charged a nifty 30 euros each per night.
The next two days were based on slow recovery. We lay, sprawled out in bed, trying to avoid hurting our sunburned bodies, drinking cool drinks, revived by air conditioning, laughing at ouber-conservative fox news.
We luxuriated in that paradise for two days, sworn off backpacking. The place had a pool, it was on the beach and had a great restaurant. I saw some thing sad there on our last day. There was a fish in a tank, waiting to be eaten, tomorrows lunch. His nose had been cut up pretty badly, he looked so pathetic, so terribly mistreated, suffering in misery. It would have been better just to kill him than leaving him hear on display. There was no dignity in it. Paddy said that you can't judge other cultures for the way they treat animals, its not our business (though I'm sure this goes on in Ireland too), but I felt like grabbing the fish and taking him back into the water. Except that he wouldn't be able to swim with his nose and fins all damaged and we probably get eaten by a bigger fish.
